The Arista 7500R Series is a full-featured modular data-centre switch router available in 4-slot (7504R), 8-slot (7508R), and 16-slot (7516R) chassis configurations delivering up to 576 Tbps of switching capacity at full route scale. Line card options span 36x QSFP28 100G (7500R-36CQ-LC), 48x SFP28 25G + 12x QSFP28 100G (7500R-48S12Q-LC), 6x QSFP-DD 400G + 30x QSFP28 100G (7500R2-36CQ-LC), and 36x QSFP-DD 400G (7500R2M-36CQ-LC), supporting mixed 25G/100G/400G environments from a single chassis without compromising route scale or feature support.
Routing table capacity reaches 4M IPv4 LPM routes, 2M IPv6 LPM routes, 2M IPv4 host routes, and 2M IPv6 host routes, providing internet full-table scale in a data-centre switch chassis. This route scale, combined with MPLS, Segment Routing, EVPN-VXLAN, BGP-LU, and IS-IS/OSPF support, makes the 7500R suitable for core routing, WAN edge, and cloud peering roles that would normally require a service-provider-class router. Dual hot-swappable supervisors with independent control-plane processors maintain routing state during supervisor switchover events.
Four million IPv4 LPM routing entries and 2M IPv6 LPM entries provide full internet routing table headroom. The current BGP full table carries under 1.2M IPv4 prefixes, leaving significant scale margin for route growth without hardware replacement. This eliminates the route summarisation workarounds that operators must apply when deploying lower-scale switching ASICs in internet-peering positions.
Four distinct line card types covering 25G, 100G, and 400G port speeds allow a single 7500R chassis to serve multiple tiers simultaneously: 25G server-facing ports on one card, 100G aggregation uplinks on another, and 400G core connections on a third. No separate chassis is needed per speed tier, reducing the overall hardware footprint and the number of management domains in the network.
Two hot-swappable supervisor modules maintain BGP, IS-IS, and OSPF adjacencies and forwarding state through a supervisor failover event using Non-Stop Forwarding (NSF) and Graceful Restart mechanisms. The standby supervisor maintains a synchronised copy of routing state, so the switchover event does not trigger a full BGP re-convergence across the attached routing peers.
Full hardware MPLS label forwarding, Segment Routing Traffic Engineering path computation, and EVPN-VXLAN control-plane and data-plane processing operate in the line-card ASICs rather than in software. This provides MPLS and EVPN forwarding performance consistent with the chassis's 576 Tbps switching capacity, without any control-plane slowpath bottleneck limiting throughput on MPLS or VXLAN-encapsulated traffic.
