The Arista C-460E is the external-antenna variant of the C-460 Wi-Fi 7 indoor access point, sharing the same three concurrent 4×4:4 MIMO access radios on 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz, 11.5 Gbps aggregate peak data rate, dual 10 GbE PoE++ uplinks, integrated IoT radio, integrated GNSS receiver, and 1280-client association capacity, but replacing the C-460's integrated antennas with external antenna connectors. The critical practical difference is the published EIRP (Equivalent Isotropically Radiated Power) values that become achievable when directional or high-gain antennas are attached: 34 dBm on 6GHz and 5GHz, and 26 dBm on 2.4GHz, which are the regulatory maximum EIRP values in most jurisdictions for those bands. With integrated omnidirectional antennas, the AP's EIRP is constrained by the antenna gain; with appropriately selected external antennas, the C-460E can reach those regulatory maxima in the direction the antenna is aimed.

This external-antenna capability makes the C-460E appropriate for indoor environments where the AP is ceiling-mounted in a riser or communications room and serves a large, elongated, or irregularly shaped coverage area through directional antenna sectors, scenarios that occur in long corridors, warehouse bays, convention exhibit halls with temporary partition walls, and aircraft hangars. The C-460E also suits installations where the AP is mounted behind an aesthetic or structural panel and must radiate through it, where directional antenna placement can compensate for the attenuation of the mounting surface. All other C-460 capabilities (802.11be multi-link operation, GNSS-assisted location, independent IoT radio aggregation, dedicated WIPS monitoring, and CloudVision CV-CUE management with 3 GB RAM on the AP) are identical to the standard C-460.

External Antennas — 34 dBm EIRP on 5/6GHz

External antenna connectors on the C-460E allow the selection of directional antennas that concentrate the AP's radiated power toward the intended coverage area rather than distributing it omnidirectionally, increasing effective coverage distance in the target direction while simultaneously reducing co-channel interference in directions away from the coverage cell. The 34 dBm EIRP achievable on 5GHz and 6GHz with appropriate antenna selection represents an order of magnitude greater EIRP than the integrated-antenna C-460 achieves with its 5.75 dBi internal antennas at the same transmit power, making the C-460E the correct choice when the AP must serve clients at range.

11.5 Gbps Wi-Fi 7 with 4×4:4 Tri-Band MIMO

Three concurrent 4×4:4 MIMO radios on 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz deliver 11.5 Gbps aggregate peak physical data rate, with 802.11be multi-link operation enabling Wi-Fi 7 clients to aggregate bandwidth across bands simultaneously within a single session. At 1280 simultaneous client associations across all bands, the C-460E can support a full venue section's worth of clients without association rejection, while the four-stream per-radio configuration ensures that the most demanding clients (4×4:4 capable laptops, video cameras, or network appliances) receive maximum spatial-stream allocation rather than being degraded to two-stream operation due to insufficient AP MIMO order.

Integrated IoT Radio and GNSS

An independent IoT radio aggregates data from Zigbee, Thread, Z-Wave, and BLE-connected devices without consuming capacity on the three Wi-Fi access radios, and an onboard GNSS receiver provides the C-460E's absolute location to CloudVision for topology mapping and to location-aware applications. These capabilities are identical to the standard C-460 and are unaffected by the external antenna configuration; the IoT radio and GNSS antenna operate from internal antennas within the chassis regardless of what external Wi-Fi antennas are connected, meaning location data and IoT aggregation function normally even in installations where only some of the external antenna ports are populated.

Dual 10GbE PoE++ with Dedicated WIPS

Two 10 GbE PoE++ (802.3bt Class 6) uplinks provide the wired bandwidth headroom necessary for 11.5 Gbps wireless capacity and support LACP bonding to the upstream switch for active-active 20 Gbps aggregate connectivity. A dedicated multi-function radio continuously monitors the 2.4GHz and 5GHz environment for rogue APs and security threats without taking any of the three access radios off-channel, providing complete WIPS coverage at zero throughput cost, and making the C-460E appropriate for regulated environments where WIPS monitoring is a compliance requirement alongside high-throughput Wi-Fi 7 connectivity.
