The Arista CCS-710P Compact Series offers two fanless PoE switch models, the CCS-710P-12 and the CCS-710P-16P, designed for enclosed or acoustically sensitive campus spaces where a rack-mounted, fan-cooled switch would be impractical. The CCS-710P-12 provides 12 standard 1G RJ45 PoE ports at up to 30W each and two 10G SFP+ uplinks, while the CCS-710P-16P adds four multi-gigabit ports, an integrated PoE Powered Device input port that accepts up to 90W from an upstream PoE switch, and a dedicated mGig passthrough port. Both models draw power from an external AC power supply, available in 150W and 280W configurations, giving administrators flexibility to match the PSU wattage to the actual PoE load without over-provisioning hardware.
Forwarding tables sized at 32K MAC addresses, 16K IPv4 hosts, 8K IPv6 hosts, and 8K/2K IPv4/IPv6 routes provide adequate capacity for access-layer switch roles connecting endpoints in classrooms, open offices, small meeting rooms, and IoT device clusters. The 10G SFP+ uplinks support transceivers from 0.5 m DAC copper cables through to 40 km single-mode ER optics, making the 710P an appropriate first-hop switch for deployments that aggregate to a wiring-closet distribution switch over varying cable plant distances. Both models run Arista EOS, ensuring configuration consistency with the rest of a 710-series or 720-series campus environment.
The absence of any internal cooling fan makes the CCS-710P inaudible in operation, a meaningful property for library study areas, executive offices, healthcare bedside settings, and audio/visual production spaces where fan noise from networking hardware is unacceptable. Passive convection cooling is sufficient because the compact port count limits total thermal dissipation to a level the chassis can handle without active airflow.
Choosing between a 150W and 280W external power supply gives administrators an operating cost lever: deployments powering a small number of low-draw devices can use the 150W PSU for lower idle consumption, while denser endpoints or high-wattage devices like multi-radio Wi-Fi APs benefit from the 280W supply's up to 234W PoE budget. Neither PSU swap requires any software change: the switch automatically reports available PoE budget based on the detected supply.
Two 1/10G SFP+ uplink ports accept the full range of Arista-qualified optical and copper transceivers: 0.5–5 m direct-attach copper, 3–30 m active optical cable, 100 m SRL, 300 m SR, 1 km LRL, 10 km LR, and 40 km ER. This transceiver range lets the 710P connect to an upstream distribution switch regardless of whether the inter-closet cabling is structured copper, short-run OM4 fibre, or long-haul OS2 single-mode, without requiring external media converters.
The CCS-710P-16P extends the base model with two multi-gigabit 1G/2.5G/5G ports at 60W, one mGig passthrough port, and a unique integrated PoE Powered Device input that accepts up to 90W from an upstream 802.3bt switch. This PD input means the 710P-16P itself can be powered over a single PoE cable rather than requiring a separate AC outlet, useful in ceiling, wall, or under-desk mounting scenarios where routing a power cable is inconvenient.
