Modular switch-router platform at 230 Tbps with 288x 400G and 16 GB deep packet buffers per line card for cloud-scale, peering, and overlay deployments.
The Arista 7500R3 Series is the third-generation modular data-centre switch router, extending the 7500R platform to higher switching capacity per slot and denser 400G port counts. Three chassis sizes, 4-slot (7504R3), 8-slot (7508R3), and 16-slot (7516R3), scale from 120 Tbps to 960 Tbps of aggregate switching capacity. Line card options include the 7500R3-36CQ-LC (36x QSFP28 100G), 7500R3-36DD-LC (36x QSFP-DD 400G), and 7500R3K-36CQ-LC (36x QSFP28 100G with MACsec), enabling consistent hardware across mixed-speed environments while preserving route-scale parity across all configurations.
Routing table depth matches the 7500R at 4M IPv4 LPM routes, 2M IPv6 LPM routes, and 2M IPv4/IPv6 host routes, maintaining full internet table capacity at the higher switching bandwidth of the R3 generation. The 7500R3 adds native 400G support and the MACsec-capable K-series line card, addressing both the density requirements of 400G cloud fabrics and the encryption requirements of regulated-industry data centres operating at multi-terabit scale. Dual hot-swappable supervisor modules and N+1 power supplies maintain availability during component maintenance.
The 7516R3 chassis reaches 960 Tbps of switching capacity with 16 fully populated line-card slots, a 1.67x capacity increase over the 576 Tbps maximum of the first-generation 7516R using the same chassis form factor and rack footprint. This higher per-slot bandwidth accommodates 400G line cards without reducing the number of populated slots compared to the 100G generation.
The 7500R3K-36CQ-LC line card adds IEEE 802.1AE MACsec hardware encryption at line rate, enabling selective encryption of specific chassis slots, for example, encrypting line cards facing DCI or WAN links while leaving data-centre-facing cards unencrypted. This per-slot encryption model avoids the all-or-nothing constraint of standalone encryption appliances and reduces cost compared to deploying encryption appliances at every encrypted interface.
The 7500R3-36DD-LC provides 36x QSFP-DD 400G interfaces per slot, enabling 400G server and spine connections directly from the chassis without external transceivers or breakout infrastructure. Mixing 7500R3-36CQ-LC (100G) and 7500R3-36DD-LC (400G) line cards within the same chassis allows a gradual 100G-to-400G migration at whatever per-slot pace the deployment schedule allows.
Retaining 4M IPv4 LPM and 2M IPv6 LPM route capacity from the 7500R while scaling switching bandwidth to 960 Tbps means the 7500R3 handles full internet routing tables at 400G fabric speeds. Operators peering at internet exchanges or terminating transit sessions directly on the chassis do not need to partition route scale across multiple devices or apply additional route summarisation to fit within a lower-capacity hardware table.
