The Arista CCS-722XPM Series provides two stackable campus PoE switch models, the 722XPM-48ZY8 and the 722XPM-48Y4, differentiated by downlink speed and uplink configuration. The 722XPM-48ZY8 delivers 48 ports of 2.5G multi-gigabit copper PoE at 60W each, backed by eight 25G SFP uplinks and a 640 Gbps switching fabric, making it appropriate for floors deploying Wi-Fi 7 APs that benefit from 2.5G client-side attachment and drawing 60W via 802.3at. The 722XPM-48Y4 serves 1G access environments with 48× 1G RJ45 at 30W PoE, combined with four 25G and four 10G SFP uplinks, providing 376 Gbps of switching capacity and a 967W PoE budget, the highest available PoE budget in the 722XPM family. Both models support 802.1AE MACsec 256-bit on every downlink and uplink port.
Forwarding tables (64K MAC, 32K/16K IPv4/IPv6 hosts, 16K/6K IPv4/IPv6 routes, 64-way ECMP, 64 MST and 254 RPVST+ spanning-tree instances, and 4K IGMP groups) match the capacity of the 720XPM/XDM series and exceed the 710-series compact switches, placing the 722XPM in the same dense wiring-closet tier. DC PSU options (500W) alongside the standard 650W and 1050W AC supplies allow the 722XPM-48ZY8 to be deployed in facilities using a 48V DC UPS bus, widening the range of sites where the switch can be powered without a dedicated AC circuit. Arista EOS, CloudVision CMP, and gRPC/gNMI telemetry operate identically to all other 720-series campus models, keeping the 722XPM in the same management and provisioning pipeline as the broader campus access estate.
The 722XPM-48ZY8 provides 48 ports of 2.5GBASE-T over standard Cat5e or Cat6 cabling, giving Wi-Fi 7 APs the client-side bandwidth they need to serve aggregated 2.5G sessions from multi-client environments without requiring Category 6A cable upgrades. A 640 Gbps non-blocking switching fabric and eight 25G SFP uplinks maintain proportionate uplink-to-downlink bandwidth ratios for oversubscription ratios appropriate to enterprise Wi-Fi traffic profiles where not all 48 ports transmit at full 2.5G simultaneously.
Both 722XPM models encrypt all downlink PoE copper ports and all uplink SFP ports with 802.1AE MACsec AES-256, protecting campus data from Layer 2 eavesdropping and tampering at the access tier without external encryption hardware. MACsec key sessions negotiate via 802.1X, and the encryption operates transparently to higher-layer protocols: LLDP, RSTP, and QoS marking all function normally alongside per-port MACsec sessions, so security is enforced without disrupting the control plane functions that access switches perform.
The 722XPM-48Y4 supplies up to 967W of 802.3af/802.3at PoE across its 48 standard 1G RJ45 ports, enabling an entire access floor of high-power Wi-Fi 6E APs (each drawing 25W–30W) to be powered from a single switch with PoE budget to spare. The default 1050W PSU delivers this budget in a single supply, and a 650W option is available for lower-density floors where fewer than 32 ports are simultaneously loaded to full PoE draw. DC supply input supports 48V bus operation alongside the standard AC supply options.
The 722XPM-48ZY8 provides eight 25G SFP uplinks, double the uplink count of the 720XPM series, allowing uplink bandwidth to scale proportionately with the 2.5G aggregate downlink load from a dense 48-port floor. The 722XPM-48Y4 offers four 25G plus four 10G SFP uplinks for deployments where the distribution switch has mixed 10G and 25G uplink capacity, avoiding the need for 10G-to-25G speed adapters. Both models support SFP transceiver options from 5 m DAC copper through to 80 km ZR single-mode fibre for inter-building and long-haul inter-closet connections.
