Simplify Branch Networking

Simplify Branch Networking

Cognitive Unified Edge brings wired, wireless, and edge security together on one platform, with zero-touch provisioning and automated root-cause analysis built in.

A typical branch network runs three separate management systems: a switch management platform for the wired infrastructure, a wireless LAN controller or cloud dashboard for the Wi-Fi access points, and a separate management console for the edge security appliance or firewall. Each system has its own inventory, its own event log, its own alert system, and its own troubleshooting workflow. When a user reports a connectivity problem at a branch, diagnosing it requires correlating events from all three systems to determine whether the fault is in the wired segment, the wireless association, the upstream link, or the edge security policy. The operational overhead of maintaining separate platforms and the diagnostic complexity of correlating events across them scales with the number of branches and grows each time a new branch is deployed.

Arista's Cognitive Unified Edge brings wired, wireless, and edge security infrastructure under a single CloudVision CUE management plane: one inventory, one event stream, one telemetry pipeline, and one AI-driven root-cause analysis engine that correlates events across all three infrastructure types simultaneously. At the wireless tier, the C-400 Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) indoor access point provides the latest Wi-Fi generation for high-density branch environments, with multi-link operation (MLO) for increased throughput and reduced latency; the C-360 Wi-Fi 6E extends wireless coverage into the 6 GHz band for deployments that need spectrum separation from legacy 2.4/5 GHz congestion. At the wired tier, the CCS-720XPM provides multi-gigabit PoE switching with the uplink capacity to power and connect next-generation Wi-Fi 7 APs (which draw more power than Wi-Fi 6 APs) without requiring wiring changes. At the edge, Edge Threat Management provides UTM-class security (intrusion detection, web filtering, application control) at the branch WAN boundary, managed through the same CloudVision CUE interface as the wired and wireless infrastructure.

AI Root-Cause Analysis

CloudVision CUE's AI engine correlates telemetry from switches, access points, and edge security appliances to trace a user-reported connectivity problem to its root cause without requiring the network operator to manually correlate events from separate systems. When a user at a branch reports poor wireless performance, the AI root-cause analysis determines whether the issue is RF interference at the access point, a wired uplink congestion event between the AP and the switch, a switch PoE power budget issue, or an edge security policy block, and presents the diagnosis with the supporting evidence rather than requiring the operator to investigate each possibility in sequence. Client experience scoring tracks the quality of each individual client's wireless association over time, providing the historical context required to distinguish intermittent problems from continuous degradation.

Wi-Fi 7 with 802.11be Multi-Link Operation

The C-400 implements 802.11be (Wi-Fi 7), which introduces Multi-Link Operation (MLO): the ability for a single client association to simultaneously use channels on 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz bands, with the controller dynamically balancing traffic across whichever channels are least congested at each moment. For branch environments with mixed device generations (Wi-Fi 7 laptops, Wi-Fi 6 tablets, and legacy 2.4 GHz IoT devices), the C-400 serves each device at the highest standard it supports without requiring separate SSID configurations or separate access points per Wi-Fi generation. Wireless Intrusion Prevention System (WIPS) provides rogue AP detection and protection, detecting access points broadcasting SSIDs that impersonate the branch network and alerting CloudVision CUE, which correlates the WIPS event with the physical switch port location of the rogue device for immediate response.

Multi-Gigabit PoE for Next-Gen Wireless

The CCS-720XPM provides multi-gigabit PoE ports (2.5G, 5G, and 10G options) at the access tier for powering and connecting Wi-Fi 7 access points that require both higher bandwidth uplinks (to serve the increased wireless throughput of Wi-Fi 7) and higher PoE power budgets (Wi-Fi 7 tri-band APs draw significantly more power than dual-band Wi-Fi 6 APs). Multi-gigabit uplinks from the AP to the switch eliminate the bandwidth bottleneck that occurs when a Wi-Fi 7 AP serving multiple simultaneous 2.4 Gbps MLO streams is connected to a 1 Gbps switch port. ZTP (Zero Touch Provisioning) through CloudVision CUE provisions new switches at branch sites without requiring on-site engineering visits. A switch is racked, connected, and powered, and CloudVision automatically applies the correct configuration based on the device's serial number and the site's template.

Edge Security Unified with the Campus Fabric

Edge Threat Management provides UTM-class security functions at the branch WAN boundary (firewall, IDS/IPS, web content filtering, and application visibility), running as a dedicated appliance or virtual instance at the branch edge. Managing Edge Threat Management through CloudVision CUE unifies the security management interface with the wired and wireless infrastructure management, so a branch network operator works from a single dashboard rather than switching between a CloudVision console for infrastructure and a separate ETM console for edge security. When CloudVision CUE's AI root-cause analysis traces a user connectivity issue to an edge security policy block, the blocked flow is visible in the same interface alongside the switch and AP telemetry, allowing the operator to determine whether the block is intentional policy enforcement or a misconfigured rule without switching tools.
